Choosing The Right Summer Camp For Your Daughter: A Guide

As the summer approaches many parents are now frantically trying to book their children’s spots in summer  camp. It is not only a vacation for kids or a break for you but it is a chance  for your child to grow, to have fun and to learn. But with so many choices it can  be confusing. Should she go to a regular camp, a camp focused on a particular interest, or  one that aims at her personal development? Here are a few tips so that she can have a productive  and enjoyable summer camp experience.

First of all, what do they like and what is their personality like?

Every child is different and the camp experience should be tailored to that child. Does your daughter like outdoor activities or is she more artistic and likes to draw and paint? There are some girls who are more comfortable in camps that are adventurous and outdoors while others may fare better in camps that offer  art, leadership or other such activities. It is important to ensure that your daughter enjoys and learns in a safe way. If she likes to be in nature, in art or if she wants to become a leader, the idea is to make her curious and to help her grow.

What are the safety measures that have been put in place? Does the camp share my family’s values?

Safety is a very important factor that should be taken into consideration when selecting a camp for your daughter. You might also want  to find out more about the camp’s safety record, the training of the staff, and how they  deal with cases of emergency. It will be a comfort to know that your daughter is in a camp that focuses a great deal on safety.

Also, consider which qualities you would like her to learn.  There are camps that are designed to teach leadership and there are others that may teach teamwork or independence.  The best camp will be the one that has your values and can help her grow.

Camp Location and Duration?

Also, think about the time of the camp and its location. If your daughter is not used to being away from home for long, then a day-camp may be a better fit.  An overnight camp can be a great choice for girls who are ready to step up their commitment and  independence. You should make sure that the camp you choose is appropriate for your daughter’s age and needs.
